i've learnt a new poem...

cub junior came home yesterday, all bubbling with news...he loves talking about his day... every single thing is important, be it the taekwondo step he learnt or the chocolate he got...

"Amma, my hindi teacher taught us a new poem. You want to hear it?"

"Sure", i said

"Aaya, aaya , paagal aaya"

"huh, paagal?..you sure she said paagal? ' i question

"she said paagal' he insisted...

so i opened his hindi book and sure enough, the poem was printed there...

and it read

"aaya, aaya, baadal aaya"

*********************************************************
obviously, he had heard it as paagal...and paagal it will remain... till hopefully the teacher notices and corrects him...(crossing ,my fingers here)...because a teacher is always right...!!!

He used to speak Hindi so well, he dreamt in it...i used to despair about him learning to communicate in English. Now 8 mths in Singapore, english has become his chosen language...and he's learnt it too well...more than he's supposed to know... :)

That was really funny!

There are times when I also worry about Betu learning to communicate in English but then I look at us and think, he will also learn. SO our main language for conversation stays as Hindi!

baadal se paagal.. :) kids do pick up languges very fast... and learn what ethy dont have to learn at the first instance...
by the time I was in 5th, i was well versed in all teh swaer words in malayalam, and i knew that it is bad and my mom and dad will kill me if i tell anything @ home.. so i used them only with friends... ;-)

nice.....kids are the best...now if u look at it minutly...for him the baadal is paagal as it hides the sun and there goes his play time....so it all makes sense i guess :)

How smart is that..replaced baadal with paagal..another correct word...not like the word doesn't exist in Hindi rite? ;-)

haha..my frend is trying to teach her 3 yr old daughter to talk tamil(their mother tongue)..n the li'l one retorts sayin.."moommy i can learn french if i must know another language, not tamil please" . hahahahhaha

Oh no idea. When she started teaching , there was only one..and that was the year they introduced hindi as part of the syllabus....maybe a decade ago.

well, inovation is the mantra these days.Btw i do this in my class.i ask them to replace some of the words with other rhyming words and make the poem funny.the kids do a fantastic job.IT'S HILARIOUS

I am a teacher and the parents of my kids say that my word is the gospel for them. But try saying things to my toddler... Ha! For her, the only thing that works is HER teacher's word.... so, if you got to get her to pin her hanky on her T-shirt while going to play-school, you got to say- "Teacher told you to do it!".
