Oops! Junior's done it again!

Its been some time since I've written anything here, which does not mean nothing interesting has happened. It just means I'm taking my time assimilating everything and wondering what is going on!

Recent weeks have seen complaints by senior about swear words and abusive language being used against him. The final straw came when the boy in question started putting things in cub senior's bag and accusing him of stealing it. It turned out that the behavior stemmed from resentment and jealousy. An email to the right people hopefully has calmed things down. Aside from the fact that the cub senior's vocabulary is now enriched by more swear words, I'm stunned by the nonchalant usage of the words here. ...I've managed to ensure that cub senior minds his language, but for how long? I wonder...

As for cub junior, what can I say...A cosy evening found him playing with a new aiplane. His brother had been to the airshow and brought back a souvenir for the lil one. So while i caught up on some reading, junior was busy shooting bombs from the cockpit. Or so i thought. Till hubby pointed out, that what i mistook as cockpit was actually a reference to his err...vital part of his anatomy.

Further subtle probing revealed that he picked it up from the bus.(i use subtle, because to give the word undue importance only serves to etch it further in his mind and i don't want that, do i?) And he was thrilled with the new word he learnt(what he has to learn, he will never get it, but this...no probs mamma, !!!). Leave alone the fact that at his age, in my time, the cock used to be the better half of the hen... :(

a mom on the warpath....a 5 yr-old who is the most willing sponge, for all things undesirable...fireworks unlimited!!!

And the tension of various situations he may use it in!!! Ahh well!!

i hope that e-mail makes teh things straight... when i was a kid - from 5th std - i was very careful that i dont use swear words at home - hope cub senior and junior also gets wise so that they use the world sonly away from moma. should i give them a class on how to hoodwink their moma?

i almost fell off from my chair laughing about the bombing.... :)

Wuite a tricky situation this is. I have no clue how I will handle such 'learnings' by my son when he grows up.

I remember when a year ago he picked the word 'shit', from god knows where, and somehow we got him to stop saying it after we told him its not a good word to use. Well he did ask some questions as to why is it a bad word and what I told him I don't remember much now.

Sometimes even I behave like a willing sponge. I unknowingly learn all the swear words in another language and use them on poor victims who know that language. :)

BTW, did you teach him the word cock or did you give it a nickname like nunu or something? That's what my friend did with her 3 year old son.

hahaha

just makes me laugh....kids, their pranks and worries....

the sponge reference is really apt - but dont you think that they do absorb a lot - so if not given importance - the thing that he picked up will be forgotten - but if you do discuss it - it rings a bell that Ma does not like this - and can be used again and again...

just asking - no experience here yet :)

@ ceedy...
yes...that's what most parents do...if they are too small..we tend to not emphasise the point because that only serves to etch it deeper...the problem is that the 5-yrold is very unpredictable...and once something has entered his head..it stays put...

and my elder one knows that there is a place and time for everything...

As the mother of three boys, I can really relate to this. They are all grown now (in fact citizens), and I cam assure you they all turned out just fine.

I think you are doing all the right things, and amusing us as well!

tell me all about it.... my 4 year old said something to me once while she was throwing a tantrum. and I totally ignored it. and she repeated it over and over. till the one year too started repeating it.
And one fine day both the kids said this in front of our japanese teacher.... who very kindly pointed out to us that our daughters were calling us 'fools' and maybe we'd want to put a stop to it.
and yes, they were calling us names in Japanese. the older one learns it at school, and the younger one's two word vocabulary is rather easy, Baka-'fool' or Yada-'I refuse to'
joy of parenting abroad... sighhh... I want my mommy

tufff? u bet..and u know what? it gets tougher evry day...

neera::
handle? oh i just explained that certain things are best left unsaid...if he wants to pee, he could pls let me know in a whisper and that he better use the rite words for teh rite things, else i'm gonna change his name too...very sweetly though...also if you ignore, they tend to forget cos they no longer get the reaction they want...

but he' not said it again ..i think he's saved it somewhere and it will crop up some uncomfortable moment...
