Pet, Please?...
Petty Issues!!!
Cub senior's latest craze is Neopets, a site dedicated to virtual pets, where you can create your pet or buy one. Once that is done , you keep it alive by giving it all kinds of food, making it duel with other pets, giving it extra powers and so on...I'm sure its more interesting than the way I've made it sound and cub senior is hooked on to it...
These two boys are quite fond of anything that moves. Holidays are spent gazing at monitor lizards, birds, turtles. Cub senior is quite good at identifying birds... polishing his skills for a bird-watching of a different kind, later in life, perhaps?
The cubs have been pestering me for a pet...It all started with the arrival of Blackie, the fish...He/she was a present to cub junior from his playschool!!For a long time I used to observe Junior sitting there for hours looking out for something...(he was not even three then!!) A few days later he comes to me and says,'When will Blackie drink up all the water and become a big fish?'Turns out my 'drink up your milk and you'll become strong' dialogue was the culprit...
Now he says he wants a bird...I point out to the ones flying above and ask him whether he really wants to keep a bird in the cage. So he's gravely weighed the issue and has decided on a dog, after me rejecting a tiger cub(but amma, it won't bite) a rabbit and a duck...Though G may not be too excited about the puppy 'cos he is not exactly a dog lover...his 14 stitches bear testimony to that...
I remember my golden pom, Richie, of years ago. We used to live in Poona, then. I remember his wagging tail, his moods, his soft fur. Dogs wag their way into your heart and then one day, its time to leave and your heart gets broken...After him, I've really not felt like adopting another pet.
A pet does teach you how to love someone unconditionally and that is what I think the kids of today need. Looking after a pet gives you some kind of responsibility and kids generally love it. Sometimes, I really think i should get a pet for them but then i remember that both cubs are unanimous in their view that they will do the loving part and i should do the cleaning bit...because amma, it's going to smell...!!!
And now i'm 'pet'rified that junior's practically adopted an egg (waiting mournfully for it to hatch )... sigh...
Perhaps when i get back to Delhi, i should get a pet...hey...but they have me, don't i do everything they tell me to do?

hmm... one thing for sure - you surely dont want your cubs to meet me! I have a fantastic idea for them ... how about having an elephant for a pet?
Specially cleaning up for momma will be great fun... I am sure!
oh oh!!!! so you going thru this too?? tsk tsk!! bad momma ;)
My sons just decided their momma is mean, bad and all names, and just asked their grandfather to take care of their pet dog....and they wanted a huge great dane.....
I havent visited my parents for a while, not willing to hear the banshee screams from them, ...and all this was just a suggestion as the senior puts it...
Living in apartments has its disadvantages too :(, either I stay or the dog??- maybe they wish for the dog :((
@ raghu...
An elephant is a great idea...Perhaps they could go to school on that :))
@ prats...
Ain't I the bad momma...We sure aren't high on the popularity list here ;)
u mean there are elephant schools in singapore? ;-)
Pets do teach us alot of things...
if ur getting a pet again, get a cute lil cat :)
Keshi.
I had to give my dogs away after my son was born :(
But honestly, you should get one when they are old enough to share the responsibility that comes along with the fun aspect of having a pet.
@keshi...
u really think a cat will be better than a pup?...
@ rohini...
I think so too...hopefully when we stay long enough in one place, i should get them one...
why not a parrot or some birds...easy to take care...
@ the artist...
but I happen to feel very sorry for the poor things... how could you cage something which is meant to be flying free?
well I love both..so get a cat AND a pup :)
Keshi.
@ keshi,
then what happens to poor mum? :)
"Perhaps when i get back to Delhi, i should get a pet...hey...but they have me, don't i do everything they tell me to do?"
.......
That was cute...
Hey TA... Why don't you get them a pet on the STRICTEST condition that they'll clean up and feed the pup et al... and of course refuse to oblige if they take a step back... it's a great way to teach them responsibility no? :)
It is imp to consider whether where you live has STRINGENT pet laws..:)
Besides.. "Perhaps when i get back to Delhi, i should get a pet...hey...but they have me, don't i do everything they tell me to do?"... that IS sooo cute:)
Just tumbled into ur blog and I went on reading one after the other.. Ok lemme suggest. If you're really thinking of keeping a pet, get home a kitten. Now let me advertise- cats don't demand your attention (a different issue that we give it a lot of attention), low maintenance, cute cuddly, fluffy, easy to train not to mess around. All u need to give it is a scratchpad. Tell u, cats are smart! :)
Ooooooooo! I LOVE dogs and I'm just WAITING For sonny boy to grow some more so we can manipulate the Acha into getting us one. He's inherited the doggy love gene from me alright, and whenever we go home to Kerala, he has a good time with the Lab we have there.
well, since the Lab's so big, she often tends to make Sonny boy fall over, so its good times till then!
LOL at don't I do everything they tell me to do.. :-D
but you don't have a tail you can wag nineteen to the dozen, do you? And you don't jump up on them and lick them all over, do you?;-)
hey thanks all,
i think a dog is a great idea but pets will have to wait till we get back to india...thankfully...
I'm soooooo scared of annimals, insects n etc etc etc!
My mama has a pet and My sister's son (2.5 yrs now)..would hug the doggie and sleep and touch his tail n wat not since he was 1 yr old! i would shriek n scream n do all the melodrama!
The kids are soooooo brave!
